I mention in my last post I wanted to give my ladies and gents more blog post. Well, here is the start of that journey. I rather talk about my outfits and my life more on my website than on Instagram. Giving you more quality than just trying to slap on an outfit here and there.
What I wanted to do with this outfit capture the 90’s nostalgia look that is going on. I am a child of the 90’s and it’s sometimes hard for me to think that these fashion trends are back. I never thought I would ever see them again.
I remember wearing a pair of overalls in the late 1990’s. Now I’ve never owned a pair of overalls. I remember stealing my sister’s pair all the time and wearing them. She would get so mad when she wanted to wear them and I had them. When I wore overalls in back in 1998 always with a shirt underneath (t-shirts mainly) and maybe you had one of the straps off.
Here I paired the overalls with a horizontal striped shirt. Which I am having difficulty finding this season for plus size women. Why is there still a taboo in the plus size industry thinking that curvy women cannot wear horizontal stripes? Because they seem to not want to make these shirts still for women of my size. I also added a standard black choker and metal bead neckless that was very popular in the alternative/ skater community during the late 90’s. I remember the one that I had when I was a pre-teen. I got it at Pac Sun, I wore it all the time, every day. I loved that necklace. Top it off with some classic sneakers, some round sunglasses, and some nude lipstick and you have the perfect vintage look.
I know it might look like it has a 70’s flare to the look but 1990’s fashion was actually influenced but 1970’s fashion. I guess what goes around comes around all the time in fashion.
Let me know what you like or hate about this look. Comment below…
Love you all,
Valerie (JG)

I actually have a difficult time getting away from horizontal stripes whenever I go shopping for plus size fashion! Hahaha not that I think it’s taboo, I’m just trying to expand my style and I tend to stick with stripes.
But I think this look is so cute. I’m kind of afraid to do the overall look but I may give it a try.

For the longest time, I avoided horizontal stripes because they make you look “bigger”. When I went to look for long sleeve shirts I couldn’t find any in the stores, the only ones I did where so thin and I just wasn’t too crazy about them for the cold winters. As for the overalls, the Levis I recommend they are so comfy and fit so well. They are not too baggy, so they hug your curves. Plus you can get them a great price if there is a sale on their website and find a coupon on retailmenot.com

I tend to go for cheap stores over fashion-savvy stores so that may be why I scout out the striped shirts more.

These overalls look cool, love the way you team them with a striped top and chic black kicks. I’ve got a nice article about overalls, would be nice if you check it: http://stylefavourite.com/2018-overalls-for-women-fashionable-and-must-have/
There are shown my favorite street style ideas on how to wear overalls in 2018.
